A morning of November 27, started as usual on the Straight Up! Music camp, a cup of coffee, fresh ears and hundreds of demos to listen to. A few minutes passed by when we came across a demo from Agravic, a well written and articulated email along with it so we moved forward to hear, our day light up and we ended with a smile on our faces, we knew we had something special there.
The artist in question goes by the name of Agravic, an electronic dance duo from Sweden that Creates a playful and unique Progressive/Electro house with huge sounds, innovative rhythms, uplifting melodies and raw head-on drops.
Finally we had the opportunity to have a informal chit chat with them. Read on to get to know Daniel and Jim aka Agravic more…
SUM : Hello guys, thanks for taking the time to talk with us. How was 2014 and how is your 2015 so far?
Agravic: 2014 was a great year for us, especially the great response we received on our second single Arise!. 2015 seems to be even better than 2014, a lot of new tracks and more opportunities!
SUM: Tell us how “Agravic” came to be? How would you define your style and who/what are your musical influences?
Agravic: We met through Soundcloud back in 2011 and we began talking about music and share ideas. It took us about a year to meet up in the studio for the first time and very soon we realized that we complemented each other very well. After a few more studio sessions we decided it was time to start a project together.
The most important elements that our music has to have is a emotional feeling to it and a heavy/energetic part, also having big dynamic changes is very important for us. We can’t deny that we are inspired by some of the big names in the electronic music world, but we also try to find inspiration in other genres of music, like rock and pop.
SUM: Recently, you guys released “The Secret EP ” on Big Alliance Records which was a Electro / Progressive House oriented EP. Please describe shortly the creative process of the EP, what inspires you and what tools you used (Software/Hardware) that helped make this original productions a reality?
Agravic: Last year we were contacted by a songwriting team from Stockholm, they wanted to collaborate with us. Together we started working on ”The Secret”, they wrote and recorded the vocals and we did the music and production in Ableton Live. Our idea was to create a positive track that could inspire people to never give up on there life dreams and goals. We are really happy with the result!
We also wanted to create a instrumental track and Jim came up with this great breakdown melody for ”Bomberdrop”, we really had a hard time trying to create the right drop for it but after trying out in different styles and sounds, we finally felt that we nailed it.
SUM: How many hours out of your day do you use on creating “magic” in the studio?
Agravic: We spend as much time as possible in the studio but we both have other jobs that unfortunately take a lot of the time that we rather spend producing music. We are hopeful that soon we will be able to work in our music full time!
SUM: What feels more rewarding to you, music production or DJing?
Agravic: We both started out by writing and producing music, so that is definitely where our hearts are. Djing is very fun and rewarding too but it still fairly new to us.
SUM: So far what you think has been the highlight of your career?
Agravic: I think it must be when our second single ”Arise” reached over one million plays on Spotify. It was an awesome feeling!
SUM: What are your top 5 tracks at the moment?
Ed Sheeran – Don’t (Don Diablo Remix)
DubVision – Broken (Original Mix)
Merk & Kremont feat. Bongom – Now Or Never
KSHMR & Dallas K – Burn
Steerner, William Ekh & Martell Ft. Corey Saxon – Sparks
SUM: What would be a piece of advice that has helped you in your career?
Agravic: ”You have to make it sound expensive!” It’s a quote from an old mentor, and we always keep it in the back of our minds.
SUM: What artist do you admire or feel lots of respect for their contribution to the EDM scene?
Agravic: We really admire ”New World Sound”… they innovate, it feels like most of their tracks bring something fresh and different.
SUM: If you could dis-invent one thing, what would it be?
Agravic: Time!. There is so much we want to do and always to little time….
SUM: Where would you not go back to for a vacation?
Agravic: We visited San Salvador once, we don’t think that we will go back for holidays.
SUM: If you could breed two animals together to defy the laws of nature what new animal would you create?
Agravic: An elephant and a chimpanzee… An “Eliphanzee”. Just because it would be fun!
SUM: What is one thing you always wanted as kids but never got?
Daniel: A dog
Jim: A helicopter
SUM: Any Word for your fans?
Agravic: Thank you so much for all the support so far!.
We know that our hard work pays off because of you and we are more motivated than ever to bring you guys more great house music!. We have a lot more coming and we promise you more big tracks later this year. We hope to see you soon on one of our shows!
