SUM: Hi guys, glad to have you here in this exclusive interview. What were you up to 10 mins before doing this interview?
L: Cooking my breakfast
J: Working on the next Diskonnected show.
SUM: We have been following you since early 2008, way before you started producing Electro House. Looking back to those days and comparing it to your music life right now, what do you miss?
M: Having nothing at stake, I mean having all the time only for music production. Speaking of music I like that is always changing and taking new directions, it allows music to fresh up and evolve. For that, I would say that at the time it was good, but I don’t miss it a lot.
SUM: In 2009, you opened Big Alliance Records, in which you released “Siberia”, a tremendous classic remixed by JELO and Jake Shanahan at the time. How do you measure the success of it now, 4 years later? Are you planning on getting new remixes done?
M: Siberia was a track that we enjoyed so much making it, this were tracks made without compromise. We can say that this tune started and defined the label , because of this the label took another direction , from being a exclusive outlet for Monolythe’s music to what it is now , no plans of remixes at this moment.
SUM: Big Alliance Records turned to be a respected franchise within Electro House and Dubstep realm, what are your expectations for Big Alliance Deep, focusing on Tech / Deep House in 4 years?
M: We hope sincerely that Deep can reach a higher level in the next year, seeing that Deep House has been lately getting stronger and stronger, this could be a nice moment for BADeep, we love this label and we will continue to push it as much as we can with nice releases.
SUM: As Djs, you’ve played in several events and parties. In your next gig ,what titles will you take in your bag?
M: We normally prepare ourselves for every gig , we like to always get new bootlegs, edits done to bring something interesting and different every time.
SUM: When was the last time you checked on one of your tracks, when it was released everywhere and said “damn, I could have done it better”?
M: All the time , I think that as producer is always that feeling in the back of your mind, is always room for improvement.
SUM: What are your favorite three tracks at the moment?
1 Danny Avila – Tronco (Original Mix) , great club banger
2 Bart Claessen & Sir Adrian – Machiavelli (Original Mix), incredible synth work
3 Vicetone – Tremble (Original Mix) , great progressive tune
SUM: Most Electro House producers have ventured out to other EDM genres, such as Dubstep or Trap. Have you done any of those? If so, what track do you recommend us to take a listen? If not, any plans for a production of this nature?
M: We have used this influences before on our remixes but we haven’t fully explore this genres on our productions. We love good dub step and trap and we can recommend to listen to this killer trap
SUM: If Justin Bieber went up to your stage and demanded Hip Hop and Miley Cyrus danced like she does on your deck table? What would you do?
L: I will punch Bieber in the face and go hide behind my wall of bodyguards , lol , Miley can twerk or dance in the stage i don’t care really.
J: Yeah I don’t mind her twerking on stage hahaha. But the one thing that I can’t stand, is people asking you to play shit :)
SUM: If you were a Microsoft Office program, which one would you be?
L: Probably powerpoint, like to tell stories
J: Norton Antivirus hahaha
SUM: You’re in a row boat, which is in a large tank filled with water. You have an anchor on board, which you throw overboard (the chain is long enough so the anchor rests completely on the bottom of the tank). Does the water level in the tank rise or fall?
M: It will depend on the anchor’s weight. A heavier weight anchor should make the water to rise
SUM: What’s the last thing to go through a bugs mind when it hits the windshield?
L : Ahhh shit , bye homies
M : You motherrfuuuckaaaaa !!!
SUM: Why do we press harder on a remote control when we know the batteries are out of charge?
L: Because we are humans and dumb
SUM: Have you ever done a prank on your wives or kids? if so, what was it?
L : Sure, i pretended to be dead in the studio with my head pressing the keyboard keys , playing a non stop massive wobble bass sound, haha
J : I’m a good husband.
SUM: What kind of person do you think he/she was, the one who saw an oval object come out from the chicken’s butt and ate it?
M: A hungry farmer
SUM: Keeping the same context but in music, what new plug ins or techniques have you tried on your music lately but in a different way that no other would?
M: We have be playing with a lot of frequency separation, busing and ground floor noise for the drums, using a free Izotope plug in call Vinyl, we have also getting deeper in tweaking plugs like Cyclop from sugar bytes.
SUM: What is coming up from Monolythe on Big Alliance Records?
M : We are working in another collaboration with Ming and vocals from Jay Jacob, the single will see the light in the beginning of next year.
SUM: What are your feelings towards people that pirate your music? Most of them would claim to be your hardcore fans, what is your message for them?
M: Well , in some point when people pirate your music is a strange form of validation in the sense that people has interest in your stuff, in the other hand is a sort of total disrespect to your work and effort. We are living in the digital world !
SUM: Any plans on making a full album?
M: This is something that we been considering for a long time and exist the possibility that we will go for it soon. We come from a rock background where the creative process is focused in making songs not tracks , this is what is motivating us to go for an album .
SUM: Message for your fans?
M: Do what you want to do , everything is possible but you have to work hard .
