SUM: Hi JELO, thanks for having this Q&A Interview with us. How you’ve been? Do you still have your afro? I Think I saw you bold in your facebook cover.
JELO : Recently Chopped…actually shaved off. It was time. Time to move on.
SUM: It’s been 4 years since your legendary and successful remix of “Siberia” by Monolythe, yet every time I hear it I go nuuuuuuts! (You should see me banging my head in the air like I want to break it). Setting aside my personal feelings towards that track, it was heavily supported by Sander van Doorn, Heatbeat and Markus Schulz back then, the first one, for an entire year! How do you feel about the success of that remix now 4 years later, and what element of the track do you think was the key to its success?
JELO : Thanks ! I think of the remix as a form of beauty and chaos. The breakdown is very cool, melodic and epic. The drop is pure madness. Driving. An assault. Guess that combo of elements really connected with people.
SUM: One track that you released this year that I love very much, is “Baddery” it has it all, melodies, mood changes, great energy control, powerful bass. Please describe shortly the creative process of that track , what inspires you and what tools you use Software/Hardware that helped you to do this original production a reality.
JELO : Working with Savant is like becoming Alice and going to Wonderland. Everything is trippy yet brilliant. I would summarize ‘Baddery’ in such a way. I feel it rocks a dancefloor with it’s quick arrangement changes, hyper melodies, breaks and drops. Glad you like it. I love that track.
SUM: As a Dj, you are always a busy man, what is next gig wise for JELO?
JELO : Touring with SectionZ in support of Savant. Still a Canadian show and a USA show to go.
SUM: Your energy in the stage is always up to the expectations, but memories wise, what is the craziest moment you have from a live event?
JELO : Recently ? Burning Man was insane. PRiDE Toronto and Digital Dreams were mad as well…take a peek !
JELO @ Digital Dreams
JELO @ PRiDE
SUM: Most Electro House producers have ventured out to other EDM genres, such as Dubstep or Trap. Have you done any of those? If so, what track do you recommend us to take a listen? If not, any plans for a production of this nature?
Like all music, some if it is great. Here si some great Trap :
SUM: When was the last time you went to an EDM concert or event as a fan? Not as a Dj?
JELO : I’m always a fan
SUM: What are your favorite three tracks at the moment?
JELO : Gonna be a bias bitch and say my new single “1,2,3 Go” alongside Savant “Vanity” and DJ Bam Bam & Hatiras ‘Thrill Her’
SUM: How do you see Electro House evolving the coming 5 years?
JELO : I don’t see anything doing anything really. Sometimes I feel like listening to Stevie Wonder and other times Queens of the stone age…it’s about what I’m feeling at the time. This planet has so much music. I have no idea what I’m going to feel next.
SUM: What is your biggest passion apart from music, tell us a bit more about you as a person.
JELO : I love to read the news and discuss events with friends, family and strangers. I am huge nerd with music, film, comics and media of all kinds. Yup, games too. I’m a Halo freak. Gotta blast aliens. Plus sex. Lots of that everyday.
SUM: When you are walking on the streets of your home town, does people recognize you as JELO or do you just go unnoticed as a regular citizen? If so, what have they told you?
JELO : Yeah I’ve gotten stopped. It’s cool, flattering. I do my best not to make an ass out of myself.
SUM: Marvel or DC Comics? We have already seen the Avengers in the big screen, Justice League is in the way, what are your speculations? who is going to win the super-hero franchise?
JELO : Marvel is destroying DC. More often we are getting dished these dumb adaptations when these corp’s own the properties and could create incredible translations. Instead we get watered down versions of what made these properties so valuable to begin with. It’s a neat failure. I, like most nerds, keep digesting the shit they spew because the options are few and far between. The studios keep spewing cuz we keep paying. It’s kinda like gasoline…
SUM: Would you rather spend the rest of your life without a significant other, or would you rather have a partner who is extremely difficult?
JELO : Easy answer. With-fucking-out.
SUM: If God (or an alien if you are atheists) you gave you one super power of your choice, what would each of you choose, and to what purpose would you use it?
JELO : Atoms. I would control all atoms.
SUM: If Justin Bieber went up to your stage, after what’s happened to your fellow comrade Marcel Woods, and demanded you to play Hip Hop, what would you do?
JELO : Fart, then scooby snack it to him.
SUM: What is the more risky and fun thing you have done in your life?
JELO : DJ
SUM: What is your take on this digital world we are living in? and what is your take on music piracy?
JELO : I like that people anywhere can access my music and pictures and videos. My world is filled with awesomesauce. This passport is for you. Visit anytime and say hi !
SUM: What’s something you wish everyone knew about you?
JELO : I hate flying on airplanes and it stresses me out. I still don’t understand happy hardcore. I thought Iron Man 3 sucked. I’ve written music under 3 different names. I love sushi. I love women. I am into Gin. In my former life I was a race car driver.
SUM: What is next from JELO, music wise?
JELO : Chaos and Anarchy and Reverse Gangbangs.
SUM: Message to your fans?
JELO : If you’ve read this interview right to the end, including this statement, then you’ll succumb to Satan. This is coded transcript of the necronomicon and you’re fucking doomed. Also, smile. Smiles are contagious.
