Da Tweekaz, also known as Kenth Kvien and Marcus Nordli, are a Norwegian Hardstyle duo signed to Dirty Workz.
Down to Earth guys, with a passion for Hardstyle and Hard Dance in general. When not behind the decks or in the studio, you can probably catch them partying in the front.
Behind the decks, their energy is unlike none other. Sunglasses on, smiles from ear to ear and fists pumping to each beat, they’re a true spark to energize any party. From the personal settings of a club to the vast and immense setting of a festival, they bring their unique style with an undying passion.
Besides their ever popular debut album “Time 2 Shine” which scored massive hits in Hard Dance charts Worldwide, another major step in their career was moving away from their Norwegian roots and planting them firmly in Belgium, where they now reside. This makes an accessible means for bookings in the Hardstyle dense countries surrounding Belgium.
If you’re not already entranced by this duo, make sure you check their performance when you have the chance. It’s unique, it’s whacky and it’s down-right fun!
SUM: What’s up guys , thanks for taking the time to talk with us, How’s been 2013 so far for your career?
Yo, thanks for having us! :) 2013 has been a great step in our career. We moved to Belgium this year to be closer to all the events, and it has really paid off. We have seen a great increase in both requests and fanbase over the last few months.
SUM: Tell us how “Da Tweekaz” came to be? How would you define your style and who/what are your musical influences?
Da Tweekaz was formed in 2006 after visiting a major german festival called Q-base. We were both instantly hooked on this new and creative style that was rapidly growing in Europe. We slowly started to experiment with the sound ourselves, and have never looked back. We define our style as euphoric, energetic, hard-hitting beats with a Norwegian twist. We do get a lot of feedback saying that people immediately recognise our tracks for their uniqueness, although we try our best to be creative and original.
As for musical influences, we gather inspiration from every kind of musical aspect. We simply can’t point out any specific artists that inspire us the most, as we listen to all types of music.
SUM: I don’t think anyone would argue that “Real Love” is your best track to date. Please describe shortly the creative process of that track , what inspired you and what tools you used Software/Hardware that helped you to do this original production a reality?
As we started producing “Real Love” we were on our way to leave FL studio, but decided to do one final track with this DAW.
The track was inspired by our previous release “Break The Spell” with a euphoric and uplifting theme. We stumbled upon the “real love” acapella in a random sample library deeply hidden in our studio computer, and it fit perfectly with a melody that we already had created. We tried searching down the origin of the vocals, but to this date we still don’t know where they come from! If anyone knows anything about it, please let us know.
SUM: How many hours a day do you see yourself doing your magic in your studio?
Musical production really depends on flow, and that really differs in our studio. One day we’ll be so stuck with no ideas at all, leaving the studio frustrated after 3 hours. While other days the ideas are exploding, and we end up having a 10 hour session, finishing major parts of a track without even blinking. We really wish all days would be like this haha :)
SUM: What feel more rewarding for you, music production or Djing?
Both things rely on each other. On one hand we love creating new tracks, collaborating with different artists and constantly being on the
lookout for musical inspiration. But on the other, there’s nothing that beats the feeling of performing your new track in front of a dedicated audience.
Then you really see if you’ve done a great track or not!
SUM: What is the best or the craziest memory you have from a live event?
We’ve done a lot of crazy shit on stage, but a while back when we were doing a live show in Antwerp, we threw over 200 rubber duckies into the crowd.
Rest of our set was just a big “squeaking” mess! And during that set, we also had a vocalist with an acoustic guitar, and a real (airsoft) Tommy Gun!
SUM: Hahaha, I bet the female audience will never forget the duckies! So far what you think has been the highlight of your career?
The highlight of our career was last year, when we finally got to release our very own album. called “Time 2 Shine” It consisted of 8 month worth of blood, sweat and tears.
But without a doubt the most proudest possession in our Record case. We got to work with a lot of talented people, alongside challenging our musical creativity to the max. It will be a while before we go down that road again!
SUM: What is your take on this digital world we are living in? and what is your take on music piracy?
The digital world that we live in is constantly changing, and it’s hard to keep up. We try our best to communicate with our fans through digital medias, as it’s become very important both for marketing, and staying in touch with our fans. We would not be where we are today without the help of the major media portals and their awesome free advantage to connect with the world. As for music piracy we don’t really give a “rat darn hoot” about it haha. People will always download your music, whether it’s legal or not. All promotion is good promotion, and if that’s what it takes for our music to spread, we don’t mind it at all.
SUM: If you had the opportunity to collaborate with one artist of any music genre, who would it be and why?
If there is one musical genius we’d wanna be in the studio with, it would be Liam Howlett from The Prodigy.
This guy has proven to be the most talented, creative and original producer of our digital age. It’s just amazing to look back at what this composer has achieved in his 20+ years in the electronic dance scene. We could only WISH to have even half of the originality he’s always had in his productions.
SUM: What are your expectations for the results of this year’s DJ Mag Top 100 Poll?
We are of course very excited for this years DJ MAG Poll, as we snuck our way into the poll last year at #99.
We’d never imagine even being in there in the first place, and seeing how the competition is even harder and more promoted this year, we’d be happy even making it to the Top 100. But we do have our fingers crossed for our fellow Hardstyle producers out there, it’s time we show the world that Hardstyle is here to stay! ;)
5 Random Questions
SUM: What do you think about the following statement, “Women might be able to fake orgasms. But men can fake a whole relationship.”?
We do believe that guys are more patient with their girlfriends. And also instead of facing a conflict, men tend to “let it pass” and see if that can solve the problem. This way a relationship can quickly be built on fake terms. Can women really fake orgasms though? Never had a problem with that ;)
SUM: Do infants enjoy infancy as much as adults enjoy adultery?
Infants do have it covered. They get to see titties all day, sleep for 14-16 hours, get food handed to them, and have someone else wiping their ass.
All of this without a care in the world. Adultery is exactly the same; titties, ass and sometimes food… But with a lot more problems surrounding it!
SUM: If life is so short, why do we do so many things we don’t like and like so many things we don’t do?
Unfortunately we are all pattern-people. We tend to fall into an “everyday-pattern” whether it’s going to work, making dinner, or hanging out with the same people over and over. But we do believe that if our day only consisted of things we do like, we wouldn’t have appreciated it as much.
That’s why we always look forward to e.g weekends, or holidays or vacations. Confusus say; “If you don’t give a f*ck, you don’t get a f*ck” :)
SUM: If you knew that everyone you know was going to die tomorrow, who would you visit today?
We would probably throw the biggest party ever, inviting every single person we love and cherish! If we’re going out, might as well do it with a big bang!
SUM: Other than music, what is the thing that you love the most?
Computers and gaming are the things that in general takes up most of our time. When we leave the studio, it’s leaving one computer and coming home to another haha. We couldn’t even try to imagine a life without it <3
SUM: Thank you guys.
