Syskey was born in France in 1990 and grew up listening to Da Hool and the mythical “Meet Her At The Love Parade”, Eiffel 65, Daft Punk and Fatboy Slim. He’s known for some of his unofficial remixes like “Riva Starr – I Was Drunk” which was played by David Guetta during one of his sets (Fuck Me I’m Famous Radio / Feb-21-2010).
Syskey has developed trough the years his own Electro-House and Progressive sound, leaving his signature sound on each track or remix that he produces.
In 2012, Syskey finished in second place on a remix contest hosted by Dj’s From Mars, on their single “Insane In Da Brain”. Encouraged and congratulated by the group, he decides to redouble his efforts and continue to pursue his passion for music.
The future looks bright for this French rising star, this year has been great for him and we are sure we will hear a lot more from him in 2014.
Make sure to keep and eye on him.
SUM : Hello mate , thanks for taking the time to talk with us, How’s been 2013 so far for your career?
Hi thank you!, 2013 has been great and a real change for me and i have decided to commit myself more on producing more original tracks and remixes, I make tracks on different names for many artists.
I have to work hard on tracks so I can reach my goal of having one track out each month, not counting remixes that practically come out every week, my aim is to always have something to offer!
SUM: Tell us how “Syskey” came to be? How would you define your style and who/what are your musical influences?
Wow! it goes back to 2007, I was inspired by a friend ” Dj ” that pushed my desire to try. I started by testing Virtual dj, but I felt so limited that started to look at music production.
I needed a stage name in order to explain what I was doing , and “Syskey” popped up when I was looking for names that do not exist or are not common.
It’s very hard to have to define what I do, but I think I categorizes my style as Electro House for the drops and progressive house for the verses. I really like to keep the melodious side.
Currently I do not really have musical influences (yes I listen to a lot EDM) , I try to listen to everything in any style , as long as I hang on! of course artists such as Da hool , Daft punk, fatboy slim have influenced me in electronic music , but today there is so many different styles and approaches that make it hard to define my musical influences.
SUM: Your latest single is “Annok” which is a massive Electro tune. Please describe shortly the creative process of that track, what inspires you and what tools you use Software/Hardware that helped you to do this original production a reality.
“Annok” is a song that I made quite quickly, the main melody was made in less than 1 hour (lucky! ahaha), I used syltenh1 for this.I started with a preset that made me think about the track of Michael Calfan “Resurrection” this is why the melody came fast! ,starting with a good preset can help you to create a melody easily and tweak it later, regarding the drop, I get inspired by what will be interacting and complementing the kick.
SUM: How many hours a day do you see yourself doing your magic in your studio?
I can spend 2 minutes opening a Project, playing it, closing it and forget about production all day when I really don’t feel to produce or i don’t have ideas, but I can also spend a whole day producing and finsih a track in the same day.
SUM: What is your favorite VST plug in?
My favorite vst is of course Sylenth1 for the number of cool presets that comes with it , but also I like to use Massive and Kontakt.
SUM: What is the most unorthodox thing you have used a VST plug in for?
Use the vst “Korg Legacy” just for fun because has a preset that sounds like a cat! it make me laugh!
SUM: So far what you think has been the highlight of your career?
I’m early in my career, but I see now that my tracks are increasingly getting played by big artists and is really cool!
That gives me more motivation to continue!
SUM: What are your top 5 tracks at the moment?
1-Hardwell feat. Matthew Koma – Dare You
2-Audien, Ruby Prophet feat. Ruby Prophet – Circles
3-Marcus Schossow, Mike Hawkins, Pablo Oliveros – Ulysses
4-Ummet Ozcan, Nervo, R3hab – Revolution
5-Major Lazer – Bubble Butt (Dada Life Remix)
SUM: What is your opinion about Straight Up! Music initiative ” Free or Pay”.
I think it is a good idea for artists to try this, this allows artists to create a bigger and solid fan base more easily and encourage fans to download and listen to what the artist is doing, and hopefully support the artist by purchasing their tracks.
SUM: If you had the opportunity to collaborate with one artist of EDM, who would it be and why?
I really like Gregori Klosman, Sick individual, Henry Fong, Denzal Park, Ummet Ozcan, Dada Life, Nicky Romero…
I currently work with the group “Party Killers” and it’s going really well, We have a big announcement in 2014 a great surprise!
SUM: What would be a piece of advice that has helped you in your career?
I had a lot of advice from several people, but I want to thank my friend Boris who has really helped me in a lot of things.
Music is a medium to express ourselves and we should pay very close attention to what we do, what we say and what we sign, this is a few tips that will help us progress.
