SUM : Hello mate , thanks for taking the time to talk with us, How’s been 2013 so far for your career?
2013 has by far been the biggest year for me! This year I was signed to Lucky and my music career turned full time. All this year i’ve been playing interstate and all over Victoria – it’s been awesome, i’m loving every minute of it.
SUM: Tell us how “Matt Watkins” music life started? How would you define your style and who/what are your musical influences?
When i was young I learnt to play guitar in year 4, ever since then i’ve always been playing music. Only recently did i get into the Electronic music scene. The main artist that broadened my musical interest into the electronic music would definitely be Deadmau5, I really got into his music from the first time I’d heard it – that’s what made me really want to try produce and create my own music. As far as my style goes, i’m definitely trying to boost this Melbourne Bounce style we are all going for, at the same time I try to bring in some more Big Room elements in as well.
SUM: Your latest remix for “Annok” which is a mega cool Electro tune that is out now. Please describe shortly the creative process of that track , what inspires you and what tools you use Software/Hardware that helped you to do this production a reality.
I had heaps of fun with this remix! The stems were super easy to work with, I wrote out the whole track except the drop really quickly, it took me a while to find a lead/drop i was happy with, but finally got one and was happy as with the final result! I use Ableton 9 which i love, just recently upgraded from Live 8 and I am loving it!
SUM: How many hours a day do you see yourself doing your magic in your studio?
On weekdays I would say I can spend from 2-9 hrs a day, it can really vary, some days i can start something at about midday and not stop until i go to bed really, but other days I might just try a few things and not really feel it, over the weekend when there are more gigs it’s a bit harder to find time to produce, but sometimes I get things going on weekends too.
SUM: What DAW you use to produce music?
I am currently on Ableton Live 9.
SUM: What is the VST Instrument you wished your computer could run without crashing?
I just recently got a new computer which is an iMac and so far hasn’t been crashing! But on the PC NI Massive would always crash and i hated that!
SUM: So far what you think has been the highlight of your career?
I would say the highlight would definitely be getting signed to Lucky Ent, the crew here is amazing – both Luke and Kieran have opened so many doors and given me so many great opportunities. It’s amazing being part of a crew that support me in every aspect of my career.

SUM: If you had the opportunity to collaborate with one artist of EDM, who would it be and why?
Out of absolutely anyone? Showtek. Every song they make never ceases to amaze, and they constantly setting the bar higher.
SUM: What would be a piece of advice that has helped you in your career?
Good msuic will always be heard, I think Deorro said that once, i feel it’s a great thought because if a song is good enough people will talk about it and the artists success should naturally come.
