SUM: Last year you topped #95 in the Dj Mag top 100. How do you feel about the rest of the positions, do you feel some people shouldn’t be there?
DJSFM: It’s a public chart, people express themselves by voting, so all the positions are well deserved, even if we don’t like some other dj’s music or attitude…someone may think we should not be there, we may think someone should not be there, there’s no “right” or “wrong”, it’s just people voting so no need to argue :) it’s just another chart…
SUM: Let’s talk about some of your tracks in specific, beginning with one of your most recent ones “It’s my life” a classic from 1992 by Dr. Alban, what’s the story behind the remix, how long did you take to produce this marvelous tune?
DJSFM: Maybe you’re talking bout Bon Jovi’s “It’s My Life”… (we never remixed Dr.Alban’s track – HA you didnt’ listen to the track! – just saw the title! caught!) – well actually that track is one of the biggest rock anthems and we love to see people sing in the clubs so we tried this remix and the crowd went NUTS so we decided to work properly on that and release it (strictly unofficial as usual:)
SUM: “Jack To The Sound” by Dirty Rotten Disco, a remix you released in 2012, featured in our compilation album “Straight Up Electro House! Vol. 8”, comparing the sound back then to the sound of “It’s my Life”, there is a big gap. Why the change? why not giving us the style you are known for and instead go for the festival oriented sound?
DJSFM: we always try to deliver different sounds. we love many different styles, so many djs and producers and bands and artists, and each one of them is a big influence to us…so yes we have our personal “flavour” but we always try to sound different from our previous track… so many producers sound a bit boring and you already know what to expect from their new release…that’s someting we hate and (hardly) try to avoid
SUM: What fans that haven’t seen you playing live yet, can expect from you? What’s your brief invitation, what’s the promise?
DJSFM: Sweat for 120 minutes! and sing! and jump! and take one day off from work cause you’ll be tired and unable to speak!
SUM: Can you recall the craziest or the most memorable moment at any of your gigs?
DJSFM: Stage diving in Aquafan (Riccione – Italy) was a dream came true! we were born looking at shows and rock singers throwing themselves into the crowd…when we tried that during a dj set we couldn’t believe it (then Steve Aoki took control with his boats and cakes)
SUM: How is the weather generally in Mars? during summer, here on Earth, we love to go to the beach, what do you do there when you feel like gettting wet & wild?
DJSFM: We come to your planet for vacation, it’s usually cheap and there are good flight connections from Mars
SUM: What are you gonna do when we start terraforming your planet?
DJSFM: We already started doin it with yours, doesn’t your neighbours look a bit weird lately?
SUM: If you could breed two animals together to defy the laws of nature what new animal would you create?
DJSFM: Eagle and centipede…how about a flying centipede? would you go shopping on a saturday night?
SUM: Where would you not go back to for a vacation?
DJSFM: Russia! Too much alcohol! really too much for us!
SUM: If you could dis-invent one thing, what would it be?
DJSFM: Sync button for djs – totally useless if you’re a dj :)
SUM: If you could lock up one person in a mental institution, who would it be?
DJSFM: no one should be locked up for insanity reasons, world is good because is different, and sometimes we call this difference “insanity”
SUM: What is one thing you always wanted as kids, but never got?
DJSFM: BOXHEADS FOR CARNIVAL!
SUM: Are you in a relationship? if so, does she always support you or does she get mad once in a while for spending too much time on your craft?
DJSFM: Yes we’re both engaged and for unknown reasons they support our project and wait for us to come back every weekend…we don’t know why but they do! maybe they have secret lovers and that’s the main reason they accept this unusual dj career…
SUM: What artist do you admire or feel lots of respect for their contribution to the EDM scene?
DJSFM: This answer would need one million pages…Daft Punk are the Godfathers, Zedd is the best new talent, Deadmau5 is always weird and funny, Avicii dared to change, Skrillex added melodies to dubstep…..hundreds of names…everyone who releases something that you never heard before, or that gives you emotion, earns our respect! shame on the boring-repetitive-standard producers!
SUM: What non-edm song would you like to crossover to Electro or House?
DJSFM: We already did it with tons of pop-rock tracks like Wonderwall, Smells Like Teen Spirits, All the Small Things, and so on….we’d like to try something with “Imagine” by John Lennon but it’s already a masterpiece so we’ll leave that behind….
SUM: What country or stage would you like to play at, that you haven’t before, and why?
DJSFM: Vatican City! and the Pope would be an MC…but this is impossible so it will be our “unaccomplished dream”
SUM: Recently we have adopted a new philosophy called “free or pay’, which targets our artist development focus for new artists, which consist of making available some of their music as free download as well as for purchase, giving back the power to the fans to support the artists that deserve it. What do you think about it? Could this work as an aswer to music piracy? Do you think more labels should follow or to the contrary, should it start and end with us?
DJSFM: we think that in 2014 you can easily download every track you like..or even listen to it by streaming, whenever you want, so download is not even necessary anymore…but if you like several tracks from one artist, you’ll surely go and pay to see him live…thats’ where money comes from in this years…and we’re totally fine with that.
SUM: What are your favorite three tracks at the moment?
DJSFM: Rap God by Eminem, Volevo un gatto nero by the Bloody Beetroots, Without You by Dillon Francis
SUM: What is next by Djs from Mars? (please exclude any human abducting plans)
DJSFM: New remixes, new gigs, new bootlegs, new label, new original tracks, new haircuts, …..
