I love experimenting with music, I love the seemingly never ending combination of bass beat and melody. I love to produce anything and everything I can get my hands on, from trance to electro progressive to breaks…I love it all…
From down under Dj Forte has rocked clubs all over Australia from humble Alice Springs to main stream Adelaide and over to pumping Melbourne. Sets supporting Dj Josh (Adelaide) Australia’s very own NIK SKITZ and Melbourne’s Scott Alert.
After taking a 2 year break to settle down get married and have 2 beautiful children, Forte has yet again felt the urge to share his music with the world and has taken to the Melbourne sound. With a local residency at Evolution in his home town of Alice Springs and regular interstate gigs you will definitely be hearing more from this young gun.
SUM: Hi Brandon, thanks for giving us a moment, how’s this year treating you down undah?
Hi thanks for having me. This Year has been really great, I’ve had many successes with my good mate Jason Risk, having our tracks played at Ultra Music, Pacha and on Chuckie’s radio show, I’ve also had one of my progressive House tracks played by Feede Le Grand which was pretty cool. My wife and I have also had our second child so its been very crazy busy and amazing at the same time”
SUM: Telling us a bit more about your collaboration with Jason Risk on the forthcoming “Billy Is Coming Home EP” soon dropping on Big Alliance and what fans can expect from it ?
It really is a blend of our two styles that work really well together…’Coming Home’ is a mix of progressive house and the Melbourne sound and Billy Brass has a Jazz influence also blended with the Melbourne sound …everyone likes the Sax :)…A funny story with Billy Brass is that Jason showed me the starts of a track he had done and I explained an idea I had of a smokey Jazz club and we put them together…I recorded some vocals that you can hear in the break me doing a pretty silly voice like a Jazz presenter at a the jazz club….I think it works well”
SUM: What is a normal day for Dj Forte ?
Whats normal really in this day and age… Of course music production and listening to music fit in there amongst the chaos of raising two children under two years old!!! And not to mention running an extremely busy restaurant….you might have heard of it …McDonald’s Family restaurants :) Keeps me on my toes.
SUM: How were you first introduced to the dance music scene?
I guess I started to listen to the tunes then was old enough to go clubbing fell in love with turntable ism, Bought some decks and the rest is history really…Practiced landed a residency in a club in Adelaide City where I played there for about 10 years. I did a music production course and then started to make my own tunes.
SUM: When was the last time you went to an EDM concert or event as a fan? Not as a Dj?
I saw Krafty Kuts and A-Skillz in Adelaide a little while back Breaks baby one of my favorite genres”
SUM: What are your favorite three tracks at the moment?
Merk & Kremont, Dannic- Anubi
Will Sparks – When the Lights Go Out (Feat Troi)
Timmy Trumpet, New World Sound – The Buzz
SUM: What is your biggest passion apart from music, tell us a bit more about you as a person.
I’m really a family man I love my wife whom I’m devoted too and I love our little rascals even if they make my hair go grey. I enjoy regular exercise too.
SUM: How do you feel the music scene in Australia relates to the electronic dance community in the U.S.?
I think that the scene over there is certainly a lot bigger, with more events and more people attending etc… However I think little old Australia has quiet a bit to offer in terms of great Artists and great music. The next step for a really well know artist in Australia is to start touring the U.S. like Will Sparks and Uberjak’d. So I think that both communities have much to offer each other, I one day hope to play over there I think the experience would be amazing.”
SUM: Give us a sense of what the genre Melbourne bounce consists of, as compared to other genres. Do you think your taste has a calling for this style of music, or for a multitude of others?
The Melbourne sound..well many big labels laughed at us at first but it’s really the people that have the say, the people spoke and they dig it…Is it the off beat bass lines or the wobbles? Is it the swing melodies or the thick leads? Is it the fact that some of it is a bit weird? It’s probably all of those elements that make Melbourne Bounce…. As for me and my take on it you will always find different styles of music in my Bounce, Jazz, Progressive house, Breaks , Electro, Big Room …. Some Bounce can get a little repetitive so I like to keep thing interesting using a multitude of different styles for inspiration”
SUM: Where would you not go back to for a vacation?
God I got kids guys, I work like a mad man and I live in a dessert ….Any location is a vacation for me!!! Hell I’ll go back anywhere if it means I can sleep in for once.”
SUM: If you could dis-invent one thing, what would it be?
I guess it would be working on Sunday’s that should just be illegal ”
SUM: Our very last question, something that us at Straight Up! love asking to each artist we sit down with. What is one thing that you straight up can’t live without and why?
I’m going to say my wife and family for two reasons…1# Because she is my everything and i can’t live with out her or the little trouble makers and 2# because if she reads this and see that I said producing then I’ll get my ass kicked and you know that saying happy wife happy life? It’s true”
